Lancers back to winning ways with third sweep in a week against the Flames

Mount Marty Softball traveled down to Omaha today to take on the College of Saint Mary Flames, snagging another series sweep to make it three in one week's time. The Lancers now sit at .500 on the season with a 17-17 record and 8-6 Great Plains Athletic Conference record. Meanwhile College of Saint Mary falls to 7-22 and 0-9 in conference play.

Game 1

Abby Johnson got the game started for the Lancers with her leadoff single in the first inning. She would go on to steal second before a Janeah Castro sacrifice bunt would move her up to third base. Autumn Porter would strike out looking before Reese Peterson knocked a single in to right field which brought Johnson home to make the score 1-0 Mount Marty. Taking to the Mound for the Lancers in game 1 was McKenzie Gray.
The Lancers would continue to lead scoring another run in the top of third inning when Janeah Castro homered into left center field to make the score 2-0 to Mount Marty. The Flames did not go away quietly though as in the fifth inning of play Ella Watts of CSM would knock in a triple which would score Macy Santoni to make the score 2-1.
Mount Marty, however would score an insurance run in the top of the 7th inning when Janeah Castro fouled out to left field for a sacrifice fly as Raegan Harper came into to score for the final score of 3-1. Madison Kovar would come into close the game for Mckenzie Gray earning a save. McKenzie Gray would pitch 6 innings earning the Win for her performance in which she gave up five hits, one run and two base on balls. She crucially turned in eight strikeouts  as the Lancers collected six  hits and one error in the ball game.

Game 2

In game two the Flames would start hot as Savannah Schewe would send a home run to left center field  after Megan Garcia singled to get on base giving CSM an early 2-0 advantage over the Lancers. Mount Marty would take until the fifth inning to score as Makayla Hudson would reach first base on a throwing error by the shortstop.  A fielders choice would see Emma Bloome the pinch runner out at second, but crucially Raegan Harper would reach 1st base before the Flames could turn the double play.
Lilinoe Nihi would pinch hit for Abby Johnson before Johnson came into pinch run for her. Autumn Porter would then single to center field advancing to second and then third on throwing errors this would see her earn the RBI as Raegan Harper made it home from first base giving the Lancers a lifeline and a run. The next play would see Mount Marty take the lead as Reese Peterson would single up the middle and bring home both Autumn Porter and Abby Johnson to flip the score to the Lancers 3-2.

CSM however would use a Megan Garcia and Sidney Griffin knock to score one run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 3-3. Any hope of a CSM win were quickly dashed as Janeah Castro would send another home run out of the ball park to make the score 4-3 Mount Marty. Jacey Hayen would come into close for the Lancers as they earned a gutsy 4-3 win. This series victory see's Mount Marty climb to 5th place in the GPAC softball standings as the Lancers ended the game with 11 hits.
