Softball: Lancers Fall To #11 Midland

Yankton, SD

The Lancers hosted #11 Midland on Friday afternoon. The Lancers lost both on the day. Mount Marty is now 17-19 overall and 8-8 in the GPAC. Midland improves to 36-5 overall and 15-1 in the GPAC. 

Game One

Midland Edges Out Mount Marty, 2-1

In a closely contested matchup, Midland emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Mount Marty.

The game remained scoreless through the first three innings as both teams' pitchers showcased their skills.

Mount Marty broke the deadlock in the fourth inning when Olivia Valdez singled, driving in Reese Peterson to give Mount Marty a 1-0 lead.

As the game progressed, it turned into a pitcher's duel, with both teams' defense holding strong.

However, Midland mounted a comeback in the seventh inning. Emily Prai singled, bringing home Aja Henderson, who pinch-ran for Ariyana Crafton. Then, a crucial error by the left fielder allowed Prai to advance to third base, scoring Crafton and giving Midland a 2-1 lead.

Despite Mount Marty's efforts to rally in the bottom of the seventh, they were unable to overcome Midland's lead, and Midland secured the victory.

Aliyah Rincon pitched a stellar game for Midland, going the distance and allowing only one run on nine hits while striking out eight batters.

Makayla Graunke started on the mound for Mount Marty, pitching five scoreless innings and allowing four hits while striking out three. McKenzie Gray entered the game in relief but surrendered two runs (both unearned) in the seventh inning, taking the loss.

Game Two

Midland Dominates Mount Marty with a 10-2 Victory

Midland showcased their offensive prowess in a commanding 10-2 win over Mount Marty.

The game started with Midland taking an early lead in the first inning, scoring four runs. Emily Prai and Reese Floro crossed the plate to give Midland a 2-0 advantage. Matti Reiling's double to right field brought home Jayci Reimers, and Reiling later scored, extending Midland's lead to 4-0.

In the second inning, Ariyana Crafton scored on an unearned run, further extending Midland's lead to 5-0.

Mount Marty responded in the third inning with two runs of their own. Autumn Porter's single drove in Raegan Harper, and Olivia Valdez's sacrifice fly allowed Janeah Castro to score, narrowing the gap to 5-2.

However, Midland's offense continued to dominate. In the fifth inning, Camille Vestal and Crafton each drove in runs, and another run scored on a wild pitch, increasing Midland's lead to 8-2. In the sixth inning, Midland added two more runs, securing their victory.

Paeton Coler pitched a solid game for Midland, allowing only two runs on seven hits over six innings while striking out one batter.

Mount Marty's McKenzie Gray started on the mound, pitching four innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits. Madison Kovar entered in relief but surrendered five runs (one earned) over two innings.
