Briar Cliff Holds Off Mount Marty in 8-6 Victory
Briar Cliff (IA) secured an 8-6 win over Mount Marty in a closely contested match.
The game started with both teams trading runs. In the second inning, Briar Cliff scored two runs courtesy of an RBI groundout by Drew Petersen and a single by Easton Cone. Mount Marty responded with a two-run blast from Will Gardner, knotting the score at 2-2.
Briar Cliff surged ahead in the third inning, plating five runs. Cam Riemer's sacrifice fly and Cade Marquardt's single, aided by a Mount Marty error, pushed three runs across. Jake Chronic's double and Cone's single extended Briar Cliff's lead to 7-2.
Mount Marty fought back in the third inning with home runs from Bodi Wallar and Shugo Kondo, cutting the deficit to 7-4.
Briar Cliff added another run in the fourth inning when Marquardt drove in Jared Sitzmann with a single.
Mount Marty clawed back in the fifth inning with Kiko Nunez's RBI single and Ryan Bachman's sacrifice fly, making it an 8-6 ballgame.
However, Briar Cliff's pitching, led by Matthew Hmielewski and Logan Borboa, held Mount Marty's offense at bay, securing the victory.
For Mount Marty, Zach Hegge started on the mound but struggled, allowing seven runs (six earned) over 2.1 innings. Myles Brown and Caden Eymann provided relief but couldn't prevent Briar Cliff's offense from taking control.

Briar Cliff responded in the third inning when Jared Sitzmann's single brought home Justin Remar, tying the game at 1-1. However, Briar Cliff surged ahead in the fourth inning with a two-run homer from Cade Marquardt, taking a 3-1 lead.
Briar Cliff extended their lead in the fifth inning with Cam Riemer's two-run double, making it a 5-1 ballgame.
Mount Marty mounted a comeback in the sixth inning, sparked by Kiko Nunez's solo homer. Bachman and William Johnson followed with back-to-back home runs, cutting Briar Cliff's lead to 5-4.
In the seventh inning, Mount Marty completed their comeback, scoring three runs highlighted by Johnson's two-run double, taking a 7-5 lead.
Briar Cliff fought back in the eighth inning, with Walker Moore's RBI single bringing them within one run, but Mount Marty's pitching held strong, securing the narrow victory.
For Mount Marty, Jared Miller started on the mound and pitched four innings, allowing three runs. Aspen Dahl earned the win with three innings of relief, giving up two runs. Clayton Chipchase and Danny Mosarah provided solid relief pitching to close out the game.
