Mount Marty baseball had a makeup double header with Morningside. The Lancers split with Morningside. The Lancers are now 21-16 overall and 7-9 in GPAC play.Â
Game One
Mount Marty Dominates Morningside in 15-4 Victory
Mount Marty put on an offensive showcase as they cruised to a dominant 15-4 win over Morningside.
The game started quietly, with both teams held scoreless in the first two innings. However, Mount Marty erupted in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs to take a commanding lead. Bodi Wallar, Shugo Kondo, and Kiko Nunez were instrumental in driving in runs during this inning, with Ryan Bachman's three-run homer highlighting the offensive surge.
Morningside managed to score two runs in the top of the second, courtesy of Jacob O'Dell's two-RBI single, but Mount Marty quickly responded with seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth. William Johnson's three-run homer was the highlight of this inning, which also saw contributions from Wallar, Nunez, and Christian Berry.
Mount Marty continued to add to their lead in the fifth inning, with Nunez and Berry driving in runs to extend the lead to 15-4.
On the pitching side, Clayton Chipchase earned the win for Mount Marty, pitching three innings and allowing four runs. He was supported by solid relief performances from Caden Eymann, Jay Neugebauer, and Shane Miller, who combined to shut down Morningside's offense for the remainder of the game.
With this emphatic victory, Mount Marty improved to 21-15 overall and 7-8 in conference play, while Morningside fell to 22-12 overall and 9-5 in conference play.
Game Two
Morningside Defeats Mount Marty 7-4 in Hard-Fought Battle
In a closely contested game, Morningside emerged victorious with a 7-4 win over Mount Marty.
Mount Marty took an early lead, scoring one run in the second inning off a single by Ryan Bachman that brought Shugo Kondo home. However, Morningside quickly responded in the third inning, scoring three runs courtesy of RBI hits from Brian Garcia and Jayson Willers, as well as a fielder's choice that allowed Ryan Kiolbassa to score.
Mount Marty managed to narrow the gap with another run in the fourth inning, as Shugo Kondo doubled to bring Bodi Wallar home, making it a 3-2 ballgame. However, Morningside extended their lead in the sixth inning, scoring four runs to pull ahead 7-2. Aiden Bishop's fielder's choice and a wild pitch that allowed Kaleb Bleil to score contributed to Morningside's offensive surge.
Mount Marty fought back in the bottom of the sixth, with Ryan Bachman scoring on a passed ball and William Johnson driving in another run with a single, but they couldn't overcome Morningside's lead.
On the mound, Myles Brown started for Mount Marty but struggled, allowing three runs in 2.1 innings. Cade Sudbeck, Danny Mosarah, and Aspen Dahl also pitched in relief but couldn't stifle Morningside's offense.
For Morningside, Aiden Bishop picked up the win, pitching three solid innings and allowing two runs. Conner Maston, Mason Rego, and Logan Warkentin combined for four innings of relief, holding Mount Marty to just two more runs.
With this victory, Morningside improved to 23-13 overall and 10-6 in conference play, while Mount Marty fell to 21-16 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
