Northwestern (Iowa) Secures 7-0 Victory Over Mount Marty
Northwestern (Iowa) displayed a dominant performance, shutting out Mount Marty with a final score of 7-0.
The action heated up in the second inning when Ashtyn Billings stole second and then advanced to third on an error, ultimately scoring the first run of the game for Northwestern.
In the third inning, Tatum Schmalbeck's single to right field drove in Jori Hajek, extending Northwestern's lead to 2-0. Later in the same inning, a stolen base and an error allowed Gwen Mikkelsen to score, followed by a groundout from Chloe Gallegos, bringing the score to 4-0 in favor of Northwestern.
Northwestern continued to pile on the runs in the fifth inning when Alyssa Vortherms stole second and then advanced to third, ultimately crossing home plate to make it 5-0.
In the sixth inning, Charli Bomgaars capitalized on a single to the pitcher, advancing to second on an error, and subsequently scoring along with Ashtyn Billings, extending the lead to 7-0.
Mount Marty Secures 6-3 Victory Over Concordia (Neb.)
Mount Marty started strong in the first inning, scoring six runs, setting the tone for their 6-3 victory over Concordia (Neb.).
In the opening inning, Raegan Harper's run followed by Kayleen Jacinto's RBI fielder's choice and Autumn Porter's RBI double quickly put Mount Marty ahead by two. Lilinoe Nihi's single brought in two more runs, and a subsequent error allowed another run to score, extending their lead to 5-0. Concordia (Neb.) responded with Aubriana Krieser's solo home run, cutting the deficit to 6-1.
Concordia (Neb.) added two more runs in the third inning with Julia Van Wey's RBI triple and Taylor Glause's RBI groundout, narrowing the gap to 6-3, but they couldn't muster enough offense to overcome Mount Marty's early lead.
Mount Marty's pitching duo of Makayla Graunke and McKenzie Gray held Concordia (Neb.) to just three runs, securing the win for Mount Marty. Graunke pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three runs, while Gray earned the save, pitching 3.1 scoreless innings.
Despite a late rally attempt by Concordia (Neb.), Mount Marty's strong start proved to be decisive, earning them the victory in this matchup.
