Lancers Earn First Win With 2-1 Road Victory at Buena Vista
STORM LAKE, Iowa — The Mount Marty University men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Wednesday night, defeating Buena Vista University 2-1 on the road at J. Leslie Rollins Stadium. The Lancers improved to 1-1 overall, while the Beavers dropped to 2-2.
The Beavers struck early, scoring in just the 2nd minute when Brayden Schwinck finished off a pass from Charlie Adams to put BVU ahead 1-0. The Lancers quickly responded in the 13th minute as Zach Hebda netted his first goal of the year off an assist from Lukas Amaya, leveling the match at 1-1.
Momentum swung further toward Mount Marty in the 28th minute. Arthur Rodriguez slotted home the eventual game-winner, assisted by Sammuel Badmus, to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead that held the rest of the way.
From there, the Lancers' defense and goalkeeper Juan Pablo Navia took control. Navia made two saves in the full 90 minutes to secure his first collegiate win in net. The back line, led by Witse Moulaert and Molibetsane Thetsane, limited Buena Vista to just three shots on goal across the contest.
Statistically, Mount Marty generated a strong offensive effort with 17 total shots, including seven on target. Hebda, Rodriguez, and Amaya paced the attack, while Andreas Socratous added three shots, one on frame. Joshua Ndoli and Thetsane also tested the Beaver keeper, helping MMU outshoot BVU 17-11 overall.
