Mount Marty Women's Soccer Dominates Buena Vista in 4-0 Victory

STORM LAKE, Iowa — The Mount Marty University women's soccer team put together a commanding performance Wednesday evening, blanking Buena Vista University 4-0 at J. Leslie Rollins Stadium. The Lancers improved to 3-2 overall with the win.

Mount Marty applied pressure from the opening whistle, recording 39 total shots—including 16 on target—while limiting Buena Vista to just a single attempt the entire match. The offensive surge paid off in the 7th minute when an own goal gave the Lancers an early lead.

The advantage doubled before halftime as Kari Pate netted her first goal of the season in the 35th minute off an assist from Rhyli Grim, sending MMU into the break ahead 2-0.

The second half belonged to Alexia Valdez, who powered home two goals to seal the victory. Valdez scored unassisted in the 74th minute before adding her second just 10 minutes later, finishing off a setup from Grim. The sophomore midfielder led the team with nine shots, five on goal, and now has two goals on the season.

Grim was influential throughout, registering seven shots and two assists, while Shakira Nolasco added six shots in the attack. Pate tallied four shots, three on frame, including her first-half goal. In total, 11 different Lancers recorded a shot, showcasing the depth of the offense.

Defensively, the back line anchored by Alyssa Rios and Liz Stordahl kept Clarke without a shot on goal, while goalkeeper Brooklyn McNac earned her first win of the season without needing to make a save.

Statistically, the Lancers controlled the match with 70% possession, a 6-1 edge in corner kicks, and a 16-0 advantage in shots on goal. Buena Vista's goalkeepers combined for 13 saves, keeping the margin from being even wider.

Mount Marty (3-2) will look to build on the momentum when they are back on the road at Bellevue University on Saturday.
