Mount Marty Women's Soccer Secures GPAC-Opening Win, Ties Program Record for Season Victories
Mitchell, S.D. — September 20, 2025 — Mount Marty women's soccer opened GPAC play with a statement victory Saturday night, defeating in-state rival Dakota Wesleyan 1-0 at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex. The win marked the Lancers' fourth of the season (4-3-0, 1-0 GPAC), tying the program's single-season record for victories since the team's inception.
After a scoreless first half, the breakthrough came in the 65th minute. Sophomore forward Avery Kimball slotted home the game-winning goal off an assist from Rhyli Grim, putting the Lancers ahead 1-0.
Mount Marty's defensive discipline carried them the rest of the way, anchored by goalkeeper Brooklyn McNac, who tallied nine saves to earn her third shutout of the season. McNac faced heavy pressure, as Dakota Wesleyan outshot Mount Marty 16-7, including 9-5 in shots on goal, but the Lancer back line and keeper turned away every Tiger chance.
On the offensive side, Mount Marty stayed efficient, with Kimball (4 shots, 3 on goal) leading the attack alongside Alexia Valdez (2 shots, 1 on goal) and Shakira Nolasco (1 shot on goal). The Lancers also showed balance, earning four corner kicks compared to Dakota Wesleyan's one.
The win gives Mount Marty four victories, tying the school record for most in a season.
The Lancers return to action on Wednesday, September 24, when they host Midland University under the lights at Crane Youngworth Field in Yankton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
