Lancers Fall at Home Against Top-Ranked Morningside

The Mount Marty University (MMU) men's basketball team faced a challenging start to the new year, falling to GPAC leader Morningside University, 76-54, on January 3, 2026.

Despite a resilient second-half effort and a strong performance on the boards, the Lancers (6-98 5-4 GPAC) were unable to overcome a difficult shooting night against the hot-handed Mustangs (10-5, 7-1 GPAC).


Game Recap

Morningside established dominance early in the first half, utilizing clinical perimeter shooting to build a 41-20 lead by halftime. The Mustangs shot a blistering 53.4% from the field and 47.6% from three-point range throughout the contest.

Mount Marty showed significant grit in the second half, nearly matching the Mustangs' scoring (35-34) and ramping up their defensive intensity. The Lancers dominated the glass, outrebounding Morningside 43-40, including 18 offensive rebounds. However, the ball struggled to find the bottom of the net for MMU, as they finished the night shooting 28.4% from the floor and 14.8% from behind the arc.


Mount Marty Top Performers

The Lancers were led by their interior presence and aggressive rebounding:

  • Sutton Arend: Led the team with 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, continuing his consistent play in the paint.

  • Jake Jensen: Contributed 10 points7 rebounds, and a steal.

  • Jackson Edman: Anchored the defense with a game-high 4 blocks to go along with 7 rebounds and 4 points.

  • Damon Opdahl: Tallied 7 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal.

  • Mac Ryken: Added 6 points off the bench, including a perfect 3-of-3 performance from the free-throw line.

Morningside Leaders

The Mustangs were powered by Daniel Brocaille, who poured in a game-high 25 points on 6-of-10 shooting from deep. Tyson Odvody added 12 points, while Fitzy Grant provided 11 points and 7 rebounds off the bench.
