Lancers Fall On The Road To The Bulldogs

Final Score: Concordia 75, Mount Marty 56

The Mount Marty Lancers (14-13, 9-12 GPAC) showed early flashes of brilliance Wednesday night in Seward, outscoring the high-powered Concordia Bulldogs in the opening frame. However, a turnover-heavy second quarter allowed the Bulldogs to seize momentum, and the Lancers were unable to bridge the gap in the second half.

The Story: A Tale of the Glass and the Giveaways

This was a statistically unusual game for the Lancers. Mount Marty absolutely dominated the physical battle, out-rebounding the Bulldogs by a massive 48-26 margin. On most nights, a +22 rebounding advantage results in a win.

However, the Lancers were plagued by 36 turnovers, which Concordia converted into easy transition points and extra possessions. While the Lancers' defense held the Bulldogs to relatively low shooting percentages for much of the night, the sheer volume of lost possessions proved too much to overcome against the #3 team in the conference.

Lancer Standouts

  • Alexus Motley: Put together a strong all-around performance, leading the team with 15 points and 8 rebounds. She was aggressive in the paint, going 6-of-10 from the field.

  • Lacey Sprakel: Remained a consistent force, chipping in 10 points and 5 rebounds while going a perfect 6-of-6from the free-throw line.

  • Lennix DuPris: Though her shots weren't falling, she was a monster on the glass, hauling in a team-high 9 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists in 17 minutes.

  • Kaela Martinez & Leah Williams: Each contributed 8 points and combined for four triples, helping the Lancers keep the game competitive in the early going.

  • Brielle Bussinger: Provided a spark off the bench with 4 points and 3 offensive rebounds.
