Baseball: Lancers Split With Northwestern

The Mount Marty Lancers traveled to Orange City, Iowa, for a high-stakes GPAC doubleheader against Northwestern College. In a tale of two very different games, the Lancers utilized a historic offensive explosion to take the opener before falling just short in a late-inning comeback attempt in the finale.

Game 1: Mount Marty 15, Northwestern 9

The Lancer offense put on a clinic, scoring 10 runs in a single inning to overwhelm the Red Raiders.

  • The Big 3rd Inning: Mount Marty sent 15 batters to the plate in the 3rd, scoring 10 runs on six hits and a barrage of walks. Key hits came from Conor Michaud (2-RBI single) and Tyler Vance (RBI single), while the team showcased incredible discipline to draw five walks in the frame.

  • Ethan Synovec: Had a career day, going 3-for-4 with a home run, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored.

  • Tyler Vance: Set the tone from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 and scoring three times.

  • Danny Mosarah: Earned the win on the mound, while Mitchell Hamrock provided 3.0 innings of strong relief to pick up his first save of the season.

  • Conor Michaud: Finished with a game-high 3 RBIs on two hits.

Game 2: Northwestern 5, Mount Marty 4

The Lancers nearly pulled off another miraculous comeback, scoring three runs in the 7th, but were unable to find the equalizer in the final frames.

  • Early Advantage: Cooper Mlnarik put the Lancers on the board early with an RBI single in the 1st inning, scoring Jalen Owens.

  • The Rally: Trailing 5-1 in the 7th, Jalen Owens ignited the dugout with an RBI single. The Lancers took advantage of wild pitches and a sacrifice fly from Mlnarik to cut the deficit to 5-4.

  • Jalen Owens: Was a terror on the basepaths, recording two hits and two stolen bases.

  • Pitching Effort: Jadon Moreno provided a solid start, going 4.2 innings and allowing only two earned runs in a hard-luck loss.

  • Close Call: The Lancers brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the late innings, but Northwestern's Brody Ayers managed to close the door to preserve the split.
