Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball: Lancers Split With Hastings; Pickup Program Win Number 1,000

History was made in Hastings, Nebraska, as the Mount Marty University baseball program reached a monumental milestone. By splitting the doubleheader against the Broncos, the Lancers officially secured the 1,000th win in school history.

While the milestone was the headline, the day was a gritty display of GPAC baseball, featuring a high-scoring back-and-forth affair in the opener and a clutch late-inning rally to seal the historic victory in the nightcap.

Game 1: Hastings 12, Mount Marty 8

The Lancers' offense showed plenty of life, but a disastrous 6-run bottom of the 6th inning for Hastings—aided by defensive miscues—allowed the Broncos to pull away.

  • Jalen Owens: Had a massive game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple and 3 RBIs.

  • Daniel Vonnegut: Delivered a clutch 3-RBI double in the top of the 6th that briefly gave the Lancers an 8-7 lead.

  • Drew Ryken: Stayed productive, recording a hit, an RBI, and scoring two runs.

  • The Struggle: Mount Marty pitchers uncharacteristically struggled with command, issuing 7 walks, while the defense committed 4 costly errors that led to 5 unearned runs.

Game 2: Mount Marty 7, Hastings 5

1,000th PROGRAM WIN With history on the line, the Lancers found their second wind. After a quiet middle stretch, Mount Marty exploded for five runs in the 8th inning to secure the landmark victory.

  • The 8th Inning Surge: With the game tied 2-2, the Lancers went on a tear:

  • Jadon Moreno: Gave the Lancers a solid start, going 5.0 innings and allowing only one hit to keep the game within reach.

  • Lucas Kampshoff (W): Picked up the win in relief, navigating through the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings.

  • Logan Bobzin (S): Entered in the 9th to slam the door, securing the save and the historic 1,000th win.
