Baseball: Lancers Use Late Inning Rally To Beat Midland

The Mount Marty Lancers displayed incredible heart and resilience in Fremont, Nebraska, overcoming a lopsided loss in the series opener to pull off a stunning comeback victory in the nightcap against Midland University.

Game 1: Midland 10, Mount Marty 1

The Warriors controlled the series opener from the jump, using a massive 7-run fifth inning to put the game out of reach early.

  • Early Deficit: Midland utilized the long ball early, with Adam Muniz Jr. and Aidan Smith both homering in the second inning to build a 3-0 lead.

  • Tough Day on the Mound: Jake Stolnack battled through 4.0 innings, but the Midland bats proved relentless, tallying 15 hits in the shortened contest.

  • Lancer Spark: Tyler Vance provided the lone RBI for Mount Marty with a double in the 7th inning, scoring Gio Galvan.

  • Base Knocks: Cooper Mlnarik added a double, while Jalen Owens contributed a hit and a stolen base.

Game 2: Mount Marty 9, Midland 8

In a contender for game of the year, the Lancers clawed back from an 8-2 deficit to score seven unanswered runs in the final two innings to stun the Warriors.

  • The Comeback Catalyst: Trailing 8-2 in the 6th, Tristan Fitzsimmons stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter and launched a massive three-run home run, cutting the lead to 8-5 and shifting the momentum entirely.

  • Mlnarik's Heroics: In the top of the 7th, with two runners on, Cooper Mlnarik blasted a game-tying three-run home run to right-center field. He finished the game with 4 RBIs.

  • The Game-Winner: Moments after Mlnarik tied it, Gio Galvan delivered the knockout blow with an RBI single to right field, scoring Ethan Synovec to give the Lancers their first lead of the day.

  • Shutting the Door: Aspen Dahl came on in the bottom of the 7th and was untouchable, striking out three Midland batters to earn his 3rd save of the season and secure the historic comeback.

  • Liam Bates (W): Earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief in the 6th to keep the Lancers within striking distance.
