LANCERS AND COUGARS BATTLE TO SCORELESS DRAW AT CRANE YOUNGWORTH

YANKTON, S.D. — The Mount Marty University men's soccer team created a flurry of scoring opportunities but could not find the decisive breakthrough, playing to a 0–0 non-conference draw against Minnesota Morris on Wednesday afternoon at Crane Youngworth Stadium.

Despite controlling the majority of the match and peppering the opposition with 20 shots, the Lancers (1-2-1) were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • First-Half Strains — Mount Marty set the tone early, outshooting the Cougars 7–3 in the opening half and winning six corner kicks. The physical play picked up midway through the frame, resulting in yellow cards for Minnesota Morris' Wilbur Reed (28') and Jean Patrick Koko (40'), as well as Mount Marty's James Starkey (36').

  • Second-Half Pressure — The Lancers turned up the intensity after the break, unleashing 13 shots in the second 45 minutes. Midfielder Dylan Davila and striker James Starkey led the attack, repeatedly breaking down the Cougars' defensive backline, but Minnesota Morris goalkeeper Dutch Bullock held firm under a constant barrage.

  • Late Defensive Hold — After Lancer midfielder Jack D'Amore picked up a yellow card in the 71st minute, Mount Marty continued to push forward while keeping their own backline secure. Goalkeeper Andrew Smith turned away both shots sent his way to preserve the clean sheet through the full 90 minutes.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Mount Marty held a stark advantage in offensive metrics across the board, outshooting Minnesota Morris 20–9 overall and put 8 shots on goal compared to just 2 for the Cougars. The Lancers also dominated set pieces, earning an 11–1 advantage in corner kicks.

Lancers netminder Andrew Smith (0-0-1) stopped both shots he faced to record the shutout. On the opposing side, Dutch Bullock (0-0-1) anchored the Cougars' defense with an 8-save effort to keep Mount Marty off the scoreboard.
