Lancers Split with Concordia University

SEWARD, Neb. -- Mount Marty traveled down to Nebraska to take on Concordia University in a GPAC doubleheader softball contest on Saturday. The teams split with each other, with the Bulldogs winning the first game 7-4, and the Lancers taking the game 4-2. Mount Marty's overall record improves to 15-16 (9-9 GPAC).

Game One
Concordia took Game One with a 7-4 score. The Lancers were able to take a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning with a sacrifice fly and passed ball. However, the Bulldogs put up five runs in the second inning to make it 5-2. CUNE added two more runs in the fourth. MMU took two runs back in the fifth on a Concordia error, to make the final score 7-4.

Makayla Graunke started in the circle, throwing the first two innings and takes the loss. Hannah Keith finished out the last four innings for the Lancers.

Ella Ray and Bailey Kortan both had two hits and two runs to lead the team offensively. Elisabeth McGill had the team's lone RBI.

Game Two
Mount Marty was able to avoid the sweep, winning the second game 4-2. A strong defensive and aggressive offense gave the Lancers this win.

Mount Marty struck first to start off the game with Abigail Page singling to center field to score Bailey Kortan. The Bulldogs were able sneak one through in the bottom half of the inning to tie it up. MMU added two more runs in the third. These runs occurred from both a single and a Concordia error.

The Lancers were able to score one more run in the top of the seventh to give them a more padded lead. They scored on Autumn Porter's homerun. This is Porter's fifth homerun this week! Porter has also recorded 11 hits, nine runs, six RBIs and one walk this week in GPAC play.

Concordia added one more run in the bottom half to make the final score 4-2.

McKenzie Gray threw the complete game for the Lancers and takes home the win. She collected three strikeouts and gave up one earned run on six hits.

Up Next
The team is back home this Tuesday, where they will be hosting #13 Northwestern College. Mount Marty won the last matchup over NWC 9-5 in the GPAC Tournament. MMU will host Doane University later in the week.

The Lancers are currently sitting seventh in the GPAC and are looking to compete in the conference tournament for the third year in a row.
