Box Score 2 Game One:
The Mount Marty Lancers beat the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles 6-2 in the first game of their double header Sunday.
The Lancers dominated on the offensive side of the ball, with key contributors making their mark on the game. Autumn Porter proved to be a driving force, delivering a standout performance with three hits and three RBIs. Abby Johnson and Ella Ray also contributed significantly, each recording two runs and showcasing their offensive prowess.
Mount Marty's offense included notable base hits, with Olivia Valdez registering a double and both Abby Johnson and Autumn Porter notching a triple each. The team was able to capitalize on offensive opportunities with a total of six runs on seven hits.
On the defensive side, the Lancers displayed effective baserunning, with Ella Ray stealing a base to keep the pressure on the Golden Eagles.
The Lancers' pitching staff demonstrated resilience and control throughout the game. McKenzie Gray, credited with the win (1-0), delivered a solid performance over 4.1 innings, allowing only two runs and striking out one batter. Madison Kovar closed out the game with 2.2 innings of strong pitching, securing the victory for Mount Marty.
Cornerstone University fought hard throughout the game, with offensive contributions from Jolie Groeneveld, who recorded a double and an RBI, and Moriah Sprague, who added another RBI. Despite their efforts, the Golden Eagles were unable to overcome the Lancers' offensive and pitching prowess.
Alyssa Braam and Allie Lubben shared pitching duties for Cornerstone, with Lubben providing a solid 3.0 innings of relief. However, Mount Marty's hitters proved to be a challenge.
Game Two:
In the second game of the double header, Cornerstone University managed to edge out the Mount Marty Lancers with a final score of 4-3.
Mount Marty's offense put up a great effort, with Olivia Valdez delivering a key hit that resulted in two RBIs. Raegan Harper also contributed with an RBI. Despite a late surge, MMU fell short to Cornerstone. The Lancers baserunning efforts were highlighted by steals from Autumn Porter and Elisabeth McGill.Â
Cornerstone University's offense proved to be a force to be reckoned with, tallying four runs on six hits. Mackenzie Nagelhout led the charge with a solid performance, recording two hits.Â
Mount Marty's pitching staff, led by Makayla Graunke, delivered a solid effort, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. Graunke pitched four innings, allowing two runs and striking out one. Jacey Hayen entered the game in relief, pitching three innings and allowing two runs, ultimately taking the loss.
McKenna Gilde for Cornerstone allowed only one run while striking out eight batters. Sydney Tilma closed out the game, securing the victory for the Golden Eagles.
