Softball: Lancers win streak halted at 4 games, Split series with Morningside

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mount Marty University Softball team picked up a split in the Twin Bill against Morningside University  in Sioux City, Iowa this afternoon in Great Plains Athletic Conference action. The Lancers now sit at .500 on the season in conference play  with a 6-6 record and overall record of 15-17. Meanwhile Morningside finish the day with lancers hot on their heels with a 7-5 conference record and overall record of 13-20.

Game 1

    A walkoff double by Morningside player Mackenna Sidzyik would see the Mustangs take game 1 from the Lancers with a final score of 5-4. The scoring would start with Morningside Pitcher Bralen Biddlecome walking four straight batters Brooklyn Townsend would earn the RBI as Autumn Porter reached home.
    The Lancer lead wouldnt last long as the Mustangs came up to bat, Morningside's kenedy Wineland would get things going for the Mustangs with a lead off single before a Paige Schuster double saw the home team even the score early, Another Double from the home team would bring home a run making the score 2-1 to the home team before Ellie Gengler stepped into the box to grab another double doubling the score over the Lancers to make it 3-1 after 1 inning of play.
    The Score remained that way until the 4th inning when Janeah Castro would single to get on Base. Makayla Hudson would step into the box to hammer home a homerun, marking her 3rd home run in a week span knotting up the ball game 3-3. in the bottom of the inning Morningside would respond with a home run of their own from Kennedee Jones to make the game 4-3.
     Mount Marty would continue to fight with an Autumn porter double in the 6th inning bringing home Janeah Castro. The Knockout blow for the Lancers would come in the bottom of the 7th as a Emma Barwick single would see her get on base and represent the winning run for the Mustangs. Mackenna Sidzyik would then double to center field, scoring Barwick to win 5-4 in game 1. The Lancers had 6 hits in game 1 to the Mustangs 9 with Morningside also collecting 1 error. Mckenzie Gray picked up the Loss on the mound in game 1.

Game 2 

    In another walkoff affair this time going in the Lancers favor, Autumn Porter would see that Mount Marty would return to Yankton with a win by knocking a home run out of the park in the top of the 7th inning to split the series with Morningside. The scoring would start in the 3rd inning as Reese Peterson would face the Pitcher Morgan Secora with bases loaded. Peterson would score Abby Johnson off the base on balls. Meanwhile an error by Morningside's second baseman would see Kayleen Jacinto reach first base and score another MMU run as Ella Ray crossed the plate to make the score 2-0 Lancers. 
    The game would continue with MMU leading until the sixth inning when the Pitcher Morgan Secora stepped into the box to make amends as she homered to left field bringing home Kennedee Jones and Ellie Gengler to make the game 2-2.
    Autumn Porter would prove the Saving grace for the Lancers in the game as she homered to center field with two outs in the top of the 7th. A relief effort of 1.2 innings would see Madison Kovar pick up the Pitching win for the Lancers and Makayla Graunke would earn the save. The final stats for the game would see Mount Marty collect 4 hits to Morningside's 6, However the Mustangs would commit two errors on the game.

Mount Marty travels to Omaha, Nebraska to take on the Flames of the College of Saint Mary on Saturday April 13th. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 PM.
