Cross Wins and Sets School Records at the Wildcat Classic
The Mount Marty cross country teams competed at the Wildcat Classic in Wayne, NE at the Wayne Country Club.
The Lancer men finished 3rd out of 5 teams scoring 79 points. GPAC rival Dordt won the meet scoring 27 points. Freshman Joseph Cross won the men's 8k in 26:33.69. En route to his first place finish, Cross set a new Mount Marty school and freshman record for the course, beating Brian Santiago's school and freshman record time of 27:21.00 by over 45 seconds. Senior Logan Ferrari finished close behind in third place (26:56.45) and set a new Mount Marty senior record for the course. Ferrari also beat Santiago's record time of 28:12.00 by over 1 minute.
Four additional athletes represented the Lancer men in the race. Sophomore Owen Koontz (29:21.95) finished in 23rd place, freshman Zaelyn Varner (31:01.07) finished in 44th place, junior David Phillips (35:46.47) finished in 61st place, and sophomore Alan Santiago (35:58.47) finished just behind in 62nd place.
In the women's 6k race that featured 64 competitors, freshman Isabella Ramsgard (26:49.01) finished 30th and sophomore Alexis Gosch (27:09.63) finished 35th.
The Lancers will compete next at the Briar Cliff Invitational at the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve in North Sioux Center, SD on October 5. The meet will begin at 10:45 a.m.
