Mount Marty Cross Country Competes at Dordt Sunflower Opener
The Mount Marty University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Dordt Sunflower Opener on September 13, with several strong individual performances highlighting the day.
On the men's side, Joseph Cross led the Lancers with an impressive 3rd-place finish, clocking 26:25.41 over the 8k course. His performance helped Mount Marty to a 4th-place team finish. Rounding out the scoring were Zaelyn Varner(65th, 30:58.56), Owen Koontz (68th, 31:36.85), Alan Santiago (78th, 34:54.96), and David Phillips (81st, 39:51.19). Together, the Lancers posted a team total of 100 points with an average time of 32:45.40.
For the women, Alexis Gosch and Lilly Whiteshirt paced Mount Marty in the 5k. Gosch crossed in 41st place with a time of 21:33.32, closely followed by Whiteshirt in 47th at 21:53.19. Their efforts provided a strong early-season benchmark for the Lancers' women's squad.
Dordt claimed both the men's and women's team titles. The Lancers now turn their focus to building momentum through the fall schedule.
