Lancers Start the Season 4-0

| Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Mount Marty traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa to compete is the ASB Dome Classic over the weekend and went 4-0. Mount Marty took down Peru State College (5-4), Mayville State University (5-1), William Penn University (5-4), and Dakota State University (12-5). The team is led by Head Coach, Kayla Bryant, who is in her second year of coaching this team. She is assisted by Ramon Romero and Shelby Davis. 

The Lancers are coming off the most historic season to date. The team broke most school records, and reached the Top 5 in every category for school records. The most notable records being the most wins in school history (32-16 overall, 15-7 GPAC), winning the GPAC Tournament, and making the NAIA Opening Round. 

MMU vs Peru State (W, 5-4)
Mount Marty was able to come back and beat Peru State 5-4. Madison Kovar (1-0), a junior from Needville, TX, picked up her first win of the season. Kovar pitched 4 innings, had three strikeouts, gave up one walk, two hits, and allowed zero runs in the game. McKenzie Gray started in the circle for the Lancers, and threw 3 innings. Gray had five strikeouts in the game, gave up six hits, and only allowed two earned run. 

Peru jumped to an early 3-0 lead after the 1.5 innings, scoring on a double and triples. MMU tied the game up in the bottom of the second. Janeah Castro was able to reach on an error and score Syndey Kotz. This was followed with a double from Kaylee Jacinto, which scored Castro and Adrian Schoby -- both unearned runs. 

Peru took the lead back in the top of third to make the score 4-3, after a single to third base. The Lancers tied the game up 4-4 on Autumn Porter's triple in the bottom of the seventh. Mount Marty picked up the win on an error made by Peru, which allowed Porter to score (unearned). 

Jacinto led the team with two hits, two RBIs, and one run in the game.

MMU vs Mayville State (W, 5-1)
Makayla Graunke (1-0) won this game after throwing the first four innings. She had one strikeout, gave up three hits, and allowed one run in the game. Kylee McDaniel pitched the fifth inning and gave up one hit and zero runs. Hannah Keith finished out the last two innings and had two strikeouts, one walk, gave up one hit, and allowed zero runs. 

The Lancers jumped to a quick 2-0 lead after the first inning. It started with a double from Autumn Porter, which scored Kaylee Jacinto. Janeah Castro followed it with an RBI single to center field, scoring Olivia Valdez. Jacinto added onto the MMU score with a double to left-center field, scoring Elisabeth McGill

Mayville was able to take one back in the fourth inning on a single to center field. Janeah hit a double to left-center field in the fifth to score two more runs, making it 5-1. 

Castro had two hits and three RBIs in the game, while Jacinto had three hits, one run, and one RBI.

MMU vs William Penn (W, 5-4)
McKenzie Gray (1-0) pitched all seven innings and picked up the win for the Lancers. Gray had five strikeouts, allowed nine hits, gave up three earned runs, and had two walks in the game. 
This game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Olivia Valdez tripled to right field to score Bailey Kortan and make it a 1-0 score. MMU added onto their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Janeah Castro singled to score Valdez to make it 2-0. That was followed by Sami Noble reaching on an error, allowing Sydeny Kotz to score (unearned).

William Penn was able to tie the game 4-4 in the top of the seventh on a single and double.

Lilinoe Nihi doubled in the bottom of the seventh to push Elisabeth McGill across home plate to win 5-4. 

MMU vs Dakota State (W, 12-5)
Regan Garry (1-0) started in the circle for the Lancers and picked up the win. Garry threw two innings, got one strikeout, had one walk, and allowed one hit and zero runs. Kylee McDaniel threw one inning and gave up three runs on two hits and one walk. Hannah Keith and Makayla Graunke each pitched two innings. Keith had three strikeouts, one walk, and gave up two runs. Graunke closed out the game, getting one strikeout, walking one Trojan, giving up a hit, and allowing zero runs. 

Elisabeth McGill, Melissa Hagedorn, and Autumn Porter all had two RBIs in this game to help lead the Lancers to a victory. Lilinoe Nihi had three hits in the game to lead the team and one RBI. 

Up Next
This weekend (Feb. 25-26) the Lancers will be in Davenport, IA. They will face Saint Ambrose University and Mount Mercy University on Saturday. On Sunday the team will Saint Ambrose University again, and Aquinas College (Mich.).
