The Lancer track and field teams opened the 2024-2025 season at the SDSU Holiday Open and Multi meet at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, SD on December 6-7. The Lancers competed against athletes from Division 1 schools to NAIA schools.
The Lancer women turned in eight top-10 performances. Juniors Alexis Even, Zelie Sorensen, Josey Wahlstrom, and Andrea Sucha each turned in two top-10 performances. Even placed 8th in the 200 (26.10), and Sorensen finished close behind in 10th place (26.21). Even and Sorensen were also part of the 7th-place 4x400 relay (4:06.34) that also featured senior Cassie Hohrman and Wahlstrom. The quartet is currently ranked 10th in the nation. Wahlstrom also placed 7th in the pentathlon (2,815 points) while winning the pentathlon 800. Wahlstrom's score currently puts her 10th in the nation.
In the long jump, Sucha placed 9th (16' 3.25"), and senior Lexa Burtzlaff placed 10th (15' 10.5"). Sucha also placed 6th in the triple jump (34' 4.75"), and junior Paige Millikan placed 10th (32' 11.25").Â
The Lancer men turned in five top-10 performances. Sophomore Zavio Prato had two top-10 finishes. Prato finished 2nd in the 400 (49.22) and 8th in the 200 (22.12). In the heptathlon, freshman Donald Dibang placed 5th (4,377 points), and freshman Marc Jonathan Van Lien placed 8th (4,233 points). Dibang is currently ranked 8th in the nation. Freshman Joseph Cross finished 9th in the 5,000 (15:46.36).Â
The Lancers had many additional top-20 finishes on both the men's and women's side. Action will resume December 13-14 at the DWU Snow Tiger Open and Multi's meet at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD.
