Mount Marty University Adds Kevin Stillson as Assistant Softball Coach
YANKTON, S.D. — Mount Marty University is excited to announce the hiring of Kevin Stillson as the new assistant coach for the Lancer softball program. Stillson brings over a decade of coaching experience at the collegiate, travel, and high school levels, along with a strong track record of player development and leadership.
Stillson comes to Mount Marty from Mid Michigan College, where he has served as an assistant coach since 2021. In that role, he worked extensively with outfielders and first basemen, contributed to game strategies and lineup management, and played a key role in recruiting and fundraising efforts. He also helped run clinics and camps, coached at Florida spring training tournaments, and implemented new skill development workouts focused on hitting, bunting, and base running.
"I'm truly humbled by the words expressed and the unbelievable support and welcoming from everyone at Mount Marty. I owe a great deal of gratitude and thanks to the years Coach Welch (Mid Michigan College) and I have coached together both in travel and collegiate softball. IÂ also want to thank all the coaches I've coached alongside or against for helping mold my coaching ways over the years and my family who have graciously stood beside the many days away and yet know this is what I love to do. I'm excited to be joining the Lancer family!"
Prior to his time at Mid Michigan, Stillson coached with the Krash Travel Team in Lansing, Michigan (2017–2020), where he served as both an assistant and head coach when needed. He specialized in infield and outfield skill development, batting, and base running, while helping players achieve college-level abilities.
From 2014–2017, Stillson led the junior varsity and varsity softball programs at Croswell-Lexington High School. There, he focused on game strategy, offensive and defensive skills training, and player growth on and off the field.
"Kevin brings a wealth of coaching knowledge and a real passion for player development to our program," said Cassandra Brown. "His ability to connect with student-athletes, along with his recruiting experience and background at multiple levels of the game, will be a great asset to Lancer softball."
Stillson's coaching philosophy emphasizes teaching leadership skills, fostering personal growth, and preparing athletes for success both on the field and beyond. His wide network across Michigan and the Midwest will also support Mount Marty's recruiting efforts.
He holds coursework in communications, business, and public speaking from Macomb Community College and has earned strong endorsements from respected softball coaches across Michigan.
