Lancers Deliver Wins, Personal Bests at Friends University Spring Invitational
Wichita, KS — The Lancers turned in an impressive showing at the Friends University Spring Invitational, highlighted by two event titles, multiple top finishes, and a wave of personal-best performances across the roster.
Senior Logan Ferrari led the way with a championship performance in the 5000 meters, clocking a personal-best and school record 14:47.71 to take first place. Sophomore Joseph Cross added to the distance success with a third-place finish in a personal-best 15:01.62.
Sophomore Osiel Cantu delivered one of the top performances of the day, winning the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 54.30. Cantu also contributed to the Lancers' 4x400-meter relay team alongside Carl Massa, Bastien Furstoss, and Zavio Prato, which placed eighth.
On the track, junior Zavio Prato posted a strong double, finishing fifth in the 400 meters with a season-best 48.77 and adding a season-best 21.98 in the 200 meters. Freshman Bastien Furstoss recorded personal bests in both events, running 49.42 in the 400 meters and 22.04 in the 200 meters. Fellow freshman Adonis Bryant also notched personal bests in the 100 meters (11.31) and 200 meters (22.47).
In the middle distances, freshman Drake Nemetz broke the two-minute barrier in the 800 meters with a personal-best 1:59.09. Freshman Jude Shaughnessy added a personal-best effort in the 1500 meters (4:26.51).
The Lancers continued to show depth in the multi-events, as sophomore Jonathan Van Lien placed third in the decathlon with a season-best 6,129 points. Freshman Kellan Odell and junior James Deseh each recorded personal bests to finish fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the field events, freshman Jackson Schmidt led the throwing group with an 11th-place finish in the javelin (41.62m), while also competing in the shot put, discus, and hammer. Sophomore Keegan Ashes recorded a personal best in the shot put.
Overall, the Lancers produced a strong mix of event victories, podium finishes, and personal bests, continuing to build momentum as the outdoor season moves forward.
Lancers Women Post Personal Bests and Strong Performances Across Events
The Mount Marty women's track and field team continued its outdoor season with a collection of personal bests and competitive performances across both track and field events this weekend.
Freshman Whitney Wollberg turned in a standout meet, recording a personal-best 26.15 in the 200 meters. She followed that effort with another personal best in the 400 meters, clocking 1:00.11. Wollberg also showcased her versatility by competing in the pole vault, clearing 2.78 meters.
Senior Taylor Hinojosa led the hurdle group with a pair of strong efforts. She posted a season-best 16.59 in the 100-meter hurdles prelims and returned to place seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with another season-best time of 1:10.18.
In the throws, freshman Kaitlyn Byerly recorded a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 10.93 meters. She added a throw of 31.29 meters in the discus, a personal-best 18.78 meters in the javelin, and a mark of 25.41 meters in the hammer. Sophomore Jenilea Olivier contributed with a season-best 9.87 meters in the shot put and a personal-best 20.77 meters in the javelin, while also competing in the discus.
The Lancers saw strong performances in the pole vault, led by junior Mya Zohner, who cleared 3.68 meters to finish seventh. Sophomore Paige Clausen placed 12th with a clearance of 3.38 meters, and freshman Teagan Vining added a personal best at 2.93 meters.
The Lancers continue to show progress and depth, particularly among their younger athletes, as they look ahead to the remainder of the outdoor season.
