Lancers Deliver Championship Performances at the 2026 GPAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships
FREMONT, Neb. — Mount Marty turned in one of its strongest all-around performances of the season this weekend at the GPAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, highlighted by conference titles, multiple podium finishes, and a dominant showing in the relays. The men's team finished fourth overall which equals a program best finish. The Lancers were 3 points out of third place and 17 points out of second place overall. The women's squad finished 9th in the team race.
The Lancers were led by distance standout Logan Ferrari, who completed a remarkable double by winning both the 5,000 meters (14:46.70) and 10,000 meters (30:35.14). Ferrari's performances established him as the premier distance runner in the conference setting a new meet record in the 10000 meters. He just missed the meet record in the 5000 meters. Teammate Joseph Cross added valuable points with a third place finish in the 10,000m (31:24.64) and fourth in the 5,000m (15:19.93).
On the track, Mount Marty's sprint and relay groups delivered key moments. The 4x400 relay team of Samuel Favaretto, Zavio Prato, Jet Janvrin, and Bastien Furstoss captured the GPAC title in 3:15.80, closing the meet in commanding fashion. Earlier, the 4x100 relay team (Janvrin, Prato, Favaretto, Austin Gobel) placed second in a fast 41.42.
Individually, the Lancers showed depth across sprint events. Austin Gobel led the way with a third-place finish in the 200 meters (21.96), while Samuel Favaretto added a sixth-place finish (22.05). In the 400 meters, Mount Marty placed three athletes in the top seven, led by Zavio Prato (2nd, 48.33), Bastien Furstoss (3rd, 48.35 PB), and Favaretto (7th, 49.03 PB), showcasing one of the conference's deepest quarter-mile groups.
The hurdles also proved to be a strength, as Osiel Cantu earned runner-up honors in the 400-meter hurdles (54.32) and added a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.15).
In the field events, Kellan Odell delivered a standout performance with a second-place finish in the javelin (60.81m PB), while Cooper Grotenhuis added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (13.53m PB).
The multi-event crew added valuable team points as well, led by Michael Beyer's third-place finish in the decathlon (5966 PB). Freshman Kellan Odell also impressed with an eighth-place finish (5564 PB).
On the women's side, the Lancers were highlighted by a conference title in the pole vault, where Mya Zohner cleared 3.91m for the win, leading a strong 1-2 finish alongside Paige Clausen (2nd, 3.58m). Whitney Wollberg added a ninth-place finish in the 400 meters with a personal best (58.69), while Zelie Sorensen placed eighth in the 100-meter final (12.29).
Mount Marty also showed consistency in the women's relays, placing fifth in the 4x400 (4:01.21), seventh in the 4x100 (48.74) and eighth in the 4 x 800 (10:33.0).
Overall, the Lancers combined championship performances with impressive depth, recording multiple personal bests and podium finishes across the board. With momentum building at the right time, Mount Marty now turns its focus toward the postseason and national qualifying opportunities.
