The Lancer track and field teams stayed home on April 24, to host the Mount Marty Twilight. By the end of the meet, the Lancers hit two new "A" standards and captured six event titles.
Leading the charge for the Lancers was Marcus Jnofinn. Jnofinn had a stellar day by winning the 100 (10.45) and 200 (21.21) and anchoring the winning 4x100 relay (41.02). En route to three event wins, Jnofinn hit the "A" standard in both the 100 and 200. The other members of the winning relay were Mason Schleis, Edwin Nyamutswa, and Donovan Breckenridge.
The men also had many additional top-eight finishes. Runner-up finishes came from Nyamutswa in the 200 (21.24), Schleis in the triple jump (44' 4.75"), Deagan Puppe in the 110H (14.96), Logan Ferrari in the 5,000 (14:58.02), and the 4x400 relay (3:25.47) featuring Zavio Prato, Nathaniel Kropuenske, Carl Massa, and Breckenridge. Luke Rettedal placed third in the shot put (52') en route to hitting the "A" standard once again.
Fourth-place finishes came from Michael Beyer in the 110H (16.28) and the 4x100 'B' team (44.68) featuring Prato, Levi Langloss, Deontae Howard, and Beyer. Fifth-place finishes came from Kropuenske in the 400 (50.28) and Cooper Grotenhuis in the triple jump (41' 10.5"). Sixth-place finishes came from Schleis in the 400H (59.22), Ethan Fritzinger in the 5,000 (16:22.57), and Isaac Cliff in the javelin (127' 7"). Seventh-place finishes came from Jacob Kueny in the 800 (1:58.75). Eighth-place finishes came from Beyer in the 400H (59.66), Liam Vidas in the 800 (2:02.20), and Grotenhuis in the long jump (20' 1").
The Lancer women also captured three event titles. The 4x100 relay featuring Aniya Teppo, Sassy Rodriguez, Alexis Even, and Zelie Sorensen won in a time of 47.80. Ashinee George won the 100H in a time of 14.88, and Josey Wahlstrom won the 800 in a time of 2:24.76.
The women's sprinters and hurdlers had other fantastic performances. In the 100, the Lancers took 5 of the top 8 places, placing 3rd-6th and 8th, with Sorensen (12.26) leading Even (12.47), Teppo (12.55), Rodriguez (12.62), and Ariel Waller (12.81), respectively. In the 200, the Lancers took 4 of the top 8 places, placing 2nd-3rd and 7th-8th, with Sorensen (25.90) leading Calli Davis (26.38), Teppo (26.69), and Rodriguez (26.74), respectively. Davis also placed 2nd in the 400 (58.92) followed by Lauren Mitchell (1:06.98) in 7th. In the 400H, the Lancers took 4 of the top 8 places, placing 4th and 6th-8th, with Tianna Bumbaca-Kuehl (1:08.46) leading George (1:10.23), Taylor Hinojosa (1:10.27), and Cassie Hohrman (1:13.31), respectively. The 4x400 relay featuring Bumbaca-Kuehl, Even, Wahlstrom, and Davis finished second (4:01.36).
Additional top-eight finishes came in the distance and field events. In the 5,000, Jordyn Fischer (19:54.72) paced Jaycee Fischer (20:29.84) to a 3-4 finish. In the 10,000, Jordyn Fischer (44:26.14) led Jaycee Fischer (45:20.14) and Alexis Gosch (45.21.47) to a 2-3-4 finish. In the throws, Alexus Motley placed third in the javelin (107' 2"), and Gabrielle Goodrich placed seventh in the hammer (140' 1"). In the jumps, Paige Millikan placed fourth in the long jump (17' 9") followed by Lexa Burtzlaff in 8th (17' 2.25"). Andrea Sucha placed eight in both the high jump (5' 0.5") and triple jump (35' 3.25").
After the fifth weekend of competition, the women have 3 event squads ranked nationally in the top 20 while the men have 2. Next up for the Lancers is the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa on April 25, and the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 25-27.
