The Lancers traveled to Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa for the 2024 GPAC Outdoor Championships on May 3-4. At the conclusion of the meet, the Lancers came away with two GPAC champions, three GPAC titles, twenty-one All-GPAC honorees, and team finishes of fourth for the men (98 points) and a tie for seventh for the women (39 points). (All-GPAC honorees are those who place in the top eight in individual events and in the top three relays.)
Marcus Jnofinn led the Lancers by claiming conference titles in the 100 (10.42) and 200 (21.49). Mason Schleis claimed the conference title in the decathlon (6,323 points) and won three of the ten events (100 - 11.00, 400 - 51.06, long jump - 21' 8.75"). En route to his conference titles, Jnofinn defended his title in the 100 and led the Lancers to a 1-2 finish in the 100 and a 1-2-3 finish in the 200. Edwin Nyamutswa claimed runner-up finishes in the 100 (10.43) and 200 (21.52). Donovan Breckenridge completed the Lancer sweep in the 200 by finishing third (21.61). Zavio Prato placed fifth in the 200 (21.87) and helped the Lancers score 28 points in the 200 alone. Prato, Nyamutswa, and Breckenridge reconvened and joined Nathaniel Kropuenske in the 4x400 relay to finish third (3:20.88).
The men's team came away with many additional top-eight finishes. Luke Rettedal placed second in the shot put (54' 1"), Deagan Puppe placed third in the 110H (14.56), and Michael Beyer placed fifth in the decathlon (5,630 points). Schleis, Nyamutswa, Breckenridge, and Jnofinn placed fourth in the 4x100 relay (41.72). The 4x800 relay composed of Kropuenske, Jacob Kueny, Liam Vidas, and Logan Ferrari also placed fourth (8:03.84). Prato also placed fifth in the 400 (48.67) and was followed closely by Breckenridge in sixth (48.95). The final top-eight finish came from Ferrari in the 5,000 with his eighth-place finish (15:13.74).
Leading the women's team was Zelie Sorensen. Sorensen finished runner-up in the 100 (12.14) and third in the 4x100 relay (47.81). She was joined by Aniya Teppo, Sassy Rodriguez, and Alexis Even in the 4x100 relay.
The women also came away with many additional top-eight finishes. The 4x400 relay composed of Tianna Bumbaca-Kuehl, Even, Josey Wahlstrom, and Calli Davis finished fifth (4:01.26). Davis also placed fifth in the 400 (59.14). Additional fifth-place finishes came from Cassie Hohrman in the 400H (1:06.24) and Mya Zohner in the pole vault (11' 1.75"). Seventh-place finishes came from Ashinee George in the 100H (14.87), Bumbaca-Kuehl in the 400H (1:07.13), and Wahlstrom in the 800 (2:21.45). Rounding out the top-eight finishes for the women was Jordyn Fischer with her eighth-place finish in the 10,000 (42:51.84).
Next up for the Lancers is the Concordia Twilight on May 10, in Seward, Nebraska. This meet will serve as the final chance to qualify for the national championships. For those who qualify, the season will conclude at the 2024 NAIA Outdoor Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana on May 22-24.
