Lancers Capture Titles and Hit Standards at Mount Marty Invite
YANKTON, S.D. – The Mount Marty Lancers hosted the Mount Marty Invite & Multi's at the Ruth Donohue Fieldhouse this weekend, delivering a series of standout performances that included event victories, national qualifying marks, and personal bests.
Following the meet, Mount Marty now has 12 athletes qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
National Marks & Multi-Event Success Sophomore Marc Jonathan Van Lien has moved into 6th nationally in the heptathlon after a strong performance that saw him finish 3rd overall in the event. The men's 4x400 meter relay team also secured a national qualifying mark, hitting the NAIA "B" Standard with a time of 3:20.80 to place 2nd. The relay squad featured Zavio Prato, Jet Janvrin, Samuel Favaretto, and Bastien Furstoss.
Senior Josey Wahlstrom added to the multi-event success, placing 3rd in the women's pentathlon.
Men's Highlights The men's team secured four event titles on their home track. Samuel Favaretto won the 200-meter dash in 22.50, leading a strong Lancer showing in the sprints. Bastien Furstoss finished right behind him in 2nd place.
In the distance events, Joe Cross won the mile and added a 3rd place finish in the 3000 meters. Logan Ferrari dominated the 5000 meters to take the title. In the hurdles, Osiel Cantu claimed victory in the 60-meter hurdles.
Cooper Grotenhuis added a runner-up finish in the triple jump to round out the top men's performances.
Women's Highlights The women's team was led by victories in the pole vault and sprints. Paige Clausen won the pole vault, clearing 3.60m to hit the NAIA "B" standard. Mya Zohner finished 2nd in the event, matching the winning height. Teagan Vining also competed well for the Lancer women in the pole vault.
Zelie Sorensen captured the 200-meter title and finished 2nd in the 60-meter dash. Alexis Even added depth to the sprints, placing 3rd in both the 60 meters and the 200 meters.
Freshman Whitney Wollberg had a breakout meet, finishing 2nd in the 400 meters and placing 4th in the pole vault. Josey Wahlstrom added a 2nd place finish in the 600 meters to her pentathlon performance.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team capped off the meet with a 3rd place finish.
