Mount Marty Names Zakk Evers as Assistant Baseball Coach

Yankton, SD — 7/23/26 — Mount Marty University Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Zakk Evers as the new Assistant Baseball Coach. Evers joins the Lancer coaching staff bringing a strong pedigree of Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) playing experience, collegiate player development, and a commitment to character-driven leadership.

Evers makes the transition to Mount Marty after a successful tenure at fellow South Dakota institution Dakota State University, where he served as a Graduate Assistant Coach. In his two seasons with the Trojans, Evers spearheaded infield development, directed game-day operations as the head coach for the developmental program, and played an integral role in day-to-day team logistics.

Prior to stepping into the collegiate coaching ranks, Evers spent four years as a catcher within the GPAC at Briar Cliff University. His knowledge of the conference landscape, combined with his coaching background as the current head coach for the Sioux Falls West Legion Post 15 organization and player developer for the Sioux Empire Baseball Association (SEBA), positions him as an asset for Lancer recruiting and scouting.

A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Evers earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management and Business Administration from Briar Cliff and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Sports Leadership from Dakota State. In his new role with Mount Marty, Evers will primarily work with the offense, coordinate defensive schemes, lead infield & catchers development, and assist in recruiting efforts.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Zakk to the Mount Marty Baseball program," said Head Coach Josh Teichroew . "Zakk is a leader of high character who understands that competitive excellence and player development go hand in hand. His energy,  familiarity with the GPAC, and proven commitment to mentoring student-athletes make him the perfect fit for our baseball program and campus community."

"I am honored and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Mount Marty University," said Evers. "Having both played and coached in this region, I know firsthand the standard of excellence expected here. The values and championship vision of this athletic department line up perfectly with my own coaching philosophy. I look forward to bringing a relentless work ethic to the diamond every day and helping our Lancers reach their full potential."
