The highest national finish for a Lancer athletic team occurred in the spring of 1998 when the Lancer Men’s Basketball team went to the NAIA National Tournament and competed in the national semi-final game in Idaho, losing in the Final 4 game to the eventual national champions by two. The team, under the direction of Coach Jim Thorson, also won the regular season SDIC title, as well as two invite tournaments during the season. The team finished the season with a 23-9 record.
